Orange Peel Mushrooms

Fall is a fantastic time of year to find wild fungus growing here in the northwoods.
Mushrooms & lichens have always caught my eye, but I have to admit that for the most part, my identification know of them isn't very broad.
I believe these are Orange Peel Fungus (Aleuria aurantia.)  I came across them on the Lakeshore Trail hike while we were exploring the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.  Such perfect little orange saucers.

  1. Wow, those are stunning colors!

Your comment is always a delight to read.

  2. These are amazing ...I have never seen anything like them...we mustn't have the climate for them here. They make beautiful subjects for art - such brilliant colour and interesting and strongly defined shapes. I like the the way the smooth texture of the orange shapes contrasts with the textured background too. Thank you for sharing your work on Mandarin Orange Monday:)
