Snowshoeing

February 1st, temps spiked to 9°(F) above zero.  Mitch & I strapped on the snowshoes & headed out in the woods behind our house for the last hour or so before sundown.

There is not a lot going on in the woods in the deep of winter.
No birds.  No sound.  Mitch observed that deer seem to all be hanging out close to peoples houses and feeders this time of year.  Few tracks or sign in the woods.

My guess is that these are ermine (weasel) tracks.

I'm not in photos often.  So, what the heck..  here's me.   Headed back to the house for a warm cup of tea.

  5. It's nice to see a photo of you! That hat looks warm, which is good for where you live! This morning it was 6 degrees when I woke up and I just wanted to climb under the blankets and not come out. Sounds like that is a heat wave for you guys though!

  6. Great landscape pictures! And all that snow - this winter has been nearly snowfree here in western Norway, so I've taken nearly to non snowpictures... But I do recognize the fungus on the birch, and your landscape could just as well have been here in Norway!

    Enjoy your snow!

  11. Your photos remind me of the the Frost poem, "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening." The photo of Mitch walking toward the setting sun is magical. Keep warm!

  14. I was thinking about you the other evening and you confirmed my thoughts. It is a silent or at least quieter world with snow covering everything. My world is frogs & a few birds most frogs calling to each other. Love the selfie. Happy Wednesday.

  18. yes all the critters are all coming close now due to the snow and cold. We've had many deer at the bird feeders at night. This is very unusual as we rarely see them coming out of the woods or crossing the picked cornfields. I went to the mill this morning and bought some corn to feed them A form of bribery as I hope they prefer it over knocking down the bird feeders for the sunflower seeds....:)

  21. Amanda,
I think there is a lot to be said for "There is not a lot going on in the woods in the deep of winter." Sometimes peace and quiet is just what we need.

Glad it was nice enough for you and the Hubby to take a little adventure.
