Meet Wookie, the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon

Our trip to the SE part of our state (we were in your neighborhood, Troutbirder!) to see about a puppy was a success.
Our family has grown by four feet.

Introducing Fräulein Wookie Amelia

Our Wookie girl is a three month old Wirehaired Pointing Griffon.
She looks so big in photos, but in real life she's all wiggly little pup with long legs, furry face, and a body that wags with her tail.   She's incredibly sweet and smart, with puppy antics to melt our hearts.

Coming home:

She loves to play hard and snooze hard.
Beach beard at the big lake:

Wookie is a bird dog. (Griffs are skilled, supreme bird dogs both on land and water.)
It's neat to watch her instincts already.  Her nose and ears are often to the ground as she follows a winding scent trail.  Her point is adorable and she retrieved from the water for us on first try.
I love her webbed toes!

Most important though, she's a family dog.  A week and change since joining our family, the bond is mutual.

We adore her, and it's a wonderful, special thing.. to feel that she loves us back.

Peace, Love, and a Pup at my Feet Again,

  1. Wookie Amelia has such a wonderful, penetrating gaze. I love her coloring - especially the round splotch at her butt! Looks like she's already a full-fledged member of the family. How is house training going? (Looks like she's already found her spot on the couch!) Give her an extra rub behind the ears from me!

    1. I love that splotch, too, Barb! She's perfectly symmetrical.
She is crate trained and does fabulously overnight, no accidents. She's usually outside with us by day. We limit her free range in the house, keeping a close eye on her, but she's been doing great. That couch is in our bedroom, and we've let her take a few naps there.. hard to resist. :)

  2. Oh she is adorable! Such cute photos of Wookie and your kids. A fine addition to your family. :)

  3. Oh my - how did I miss your news about your puppy? She is adorable - heart-melting! Life is so much better with a dog or two, isn't it?

  4. How wonderful, Amanda! A pointing, retrieving family bird dog named Wookie. It doesn't get any better than that. I'm not familiar with this breed and wonder where you got it in our "neighborhood?" I know about the ambivalence of losing a beloved dog and then starting afresh a puppy. We've done that four times & never regretted it. ...:)

  5. What a cutie! Friends of mine have that breed for hunting and love her like crazy!

  6. What a darling puppy. I've never heard of this dog breed before. She's really quite lovely and I can see she's "loved" already. Congratulations.

  7. I AM IN LOVE. . . . from a distance!
    Oh my . . . what a cute pup . . .
    Adorable, endearing post Amanda!

  8. She is perfect! I love the shot of your child's hand and her paw. I loved it on IG and I love it here.

  9. OH, you really do know how to make a girl cry!! What wonderful pictures of a completely adorable sweetheart. I'm so glad it's all working out and you will be loved and loving for a long, long time, God willing. :-)

  10. Welcome to the family! she looks like a wonderful dog.Judging from the happy faces of your family you did the right thing!

  11. Kids and a puppy ... let the fun begin! Looks like she is adjusting well to your family.

  12. This is such good news Amanda! Wookie seems to belong in your family. Love your summer feet!

  13. precious! nothing better than puppy kisses and cute paws. :)

  14. Oh my, what a cute puppy dog. I like the name Wookie too! Adorable photos! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Have a happy weekend!

  15. She is ADORABLE how could you not love her and I love that last shot of 'your' feet adn her back. Have a wonderful weekend.

  16. Just returned from vacation and catching up. Your new pup is a cute one. Never have heard of that breed before.
